In 2010 we chose Bandos. G was 9 years old, a savvy traveller for her age, but it would be her first visit to The Maldives and longest haul flight to date. Bandos is only 15 minutes from the airport at Male by speed boat.
Bandos was the second resort Island to be developed and now consists of 225 rooms.
We arrived, kicked off our shoes and that was it for 2 fantastic weeks. We had a room 30 yards from the fantastic House Reef and suffice to say we spent most of our time in the water.
So it was absolutely the right choice for us at that time. There was loads to do. We did a boat trip to a couple of neighboring islands and had a really great barbecue lunch on Kuda Bandos which is about 2 minutes by boat. G water-skied, we all snorkelled until we dropped and the food was pretty good.
You get some pretty spectacular sunsets in The Maldives and the Sunset Bar here certainly lives up to it’s name.
We met families who had stayed there before, one particular family was returning for the 7th time.
Everything about this holiday ticked every single one of our boxes, but then again we are all completely in love with The Maldives.
The colours are so remarkable and it is devastating to think that some of the smaller islands may be gone by the time G takes her own family there. They are indeed the jewels of the Indian Ocean.
