WELCOME TO LIFE ON THE FUNNY SIDE

ErmaBombeck
“When humor goes, there goes civilization.”  The immortal words of  Erma Bombeck 1927-1996

A world without humour or humor, depending on which side of the Atlantic you popped out, would be a very dull place.

Vic Wood Stand up
“I once went to one of those parties where everyone throws their car keys into the middle of the room. I don’t know who got my moped but I’ve been driving that Peugeot for years.” Victoria Wood 1953 – 2016

I remember seeing the late and much-missed Victoria Wood perform at the Theatre Royal in Bath in the early Seventies when we both had a foot on the first rung of our career ladder and I thought wow!  Not that I aspired to be a stand up comic, but I was in total awe of her way with words.

Sally Wainwright
”I like writing women, they’re heroic’  Sally Wainwright

A couple of decades on and I discovered Sally Wainwright and became addicted to her pithy script writing after three series of At Home With the Braithwaites before going on to overdose on Last Tango in Halifax and Happy Valley.

I have struggled to find my writing niche over the years, despite having had two factual books published.  I dabbled for too many years after receiving a few knockbacks allowing myself to wallow in a sea of self-doubt. But I’m back now, with a fire in my belly and humour in my heart.

Which is mine.png

I am in the throws of finishing my first novel, but writing it was the easy bit.  I only have to dive off the Social Media platforms to know that there are thousands of people out there who, like me, are itching to see their work in print.  So the competition is fierce and frenzied.

Stephen King’s first big novel, Carrie, was rejected thirty times and J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter was rebuffed twelve times.  If writers of that calibre can go through the rejection process umpteen times, then so can I.

  1. Hi fellow blogger. Thanks for the “like” on my bog. I surely have everybody you mentioned beat with the number of rejections I have had for each of my books, but it won’t stop me from continuing to write. Keep up the good work!

    1. Hi, Johanna and fellow Baby Boomer… thanks for taking the time to comment. I think rejections spur you on to producing your best work… at least, that is what I am hoping! You too keep up the good work 🙂
