“To have a friend and be a friend is what makes life worthwhile.” ~Unknown

I have had an excellent weekend. One of my oldest friends came to stay. We have known each other for, ahem, 45 years. Coincidentally, we share the same birthdays. We were virtually inseparable throughout our teens and early twenties, when life and relationships started getting in the way. Given that we haven’t exactly lived down the road from each other for quite some time and now there is the English Channel between us, picking up where we left off has never presented us with a problem.

We have spent most of our significant birthdays together and will continue to do so.

Whatever the binding ingredients are for a long term friendship, I know that through thick and thin, adolescence and the menopause, mine is here to stay.
