I have always been fascinated by the creatures that live in the deepest parts of our oceans. I swam into a small jellyfish in Spain when I was about 8 and got stung, which put me off going in the sea again for the rest of the holiday. But I was very interested to hear about the couple, and their dog, who swam with a barrel jelly fish just off the coast of Falmouth recently. What a whopper!

Fortunately his, or her, sting is only equivalent to nettle rash. Mind you, I wouldn’t have got that close.

What had me completely awed last year was the Discovery Channel’s programme Monster Squid. Check this out! Doesn’t it make you wonder what else is down there and exactly how big they are?
