For a small Island, Jersey continues to produce the most amazing talent, as the supporting acts for Tom Jones proved on Friday night.
Samuel Walwyn kick started the evening.
I was gutted to have missed his performance, but I am sure we will all hear more about this talented singer-songwriter soon.
Sara Strudwick was next up.
At 15, Sara has a fantastic voice, performing covers, she looked completely at home on the big stage, as did a very confident Mica Young.
Mica, who auditioned for the X Factor earlier this year, performed some Etta James songs which certainly showed off her powerful vocals.
The the four piece band The Collective were up next. I first met their lead singer Jaime about 10 years ago just after she had graduated from the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford. At that time she agreed to demo some of my songs. I couldn’t believe my luck! She has such a great, soulful lilt to her voice, which just makes you want to hear more. Having hooked up with drummer Michael Bentley, together with guitarists David Ashurst (lead) and John Ashurst (bass) a comparatively short time ago, their set list includes Motown and Rock.
I am not sure why, but I had never seen The Jersey Bounce before. They were the last act before Sir Tom. Well, wow! Not sure what else I can say about their performance!
This is an incredible 10 piece jazz/swing band fronted by Mark Willmett who at 37, has been performing swing most of his life. He has a great voice, as does vocalist Liz Birchall. If the audience were loving it, so were they! They were so enthusiastic! Brilliant! Loved it!
